Changing or Cancelling Your Plan

How to move up, move down or cancel, when each takes effect, and what happens to your records either way.

Last reviewed 2026-10-19

You can change plan whenever you want, from Account & plan. Nothing you have researched or added is ever deleted by a plan change.

Moving up

Happens right away.

Moving from the free Starter plan, you pay for your first month at checkout. If you move from Personal to Family, you are charged the difference for the rest of the current month straight away.

Either way, monitoring resumes as soon as the payment goes through, and if you move to Family, any read-only profiles come back at the same time.

Moving down, or cancelling

Happens at the end of the month you have already paid for. You keep everything you are paying for until then, and we do not charge you again.

We do not split a month you have already started, so there is no partial refund. If you are changing plans because something went wrong, tell us. We would rather fix it than have you work around it.

During a free trial

If you are on a free trial of Family and want Personal instead, add a payment method first. Personal then starts when the trial ends. See Your free trial of Family.

Before you confirm

We will ask you to make up to two decisions, if they apply to you:

  1. Which profile stays active, if your new plan covers fewer people than you have. See Choosing which profile stays active.
  2. Whether you are ready for record monitoring to stop, if your new plan does not include it.

It all happens in one go, you will see a summary of what changes and when before the final Confirm downgrade button.

Changed your mind?

Until the change takes effect, Account & plan shows the date and a Cancel downgrade button that keeps you where you are.

One thing to know: if you delete the profile you chose to keep before the change takes effect, we will ask you to choose again.

Cancelling

Cancelling is the same as moving to our free Starter plan. Your records, your past research and your reports all stay exactly where they are, and stay readable.

The free Starter plan is limited to 5 questions a week instead of unlimited, 3 records held at a time and one active patient profile. It has no automatic record monitoring, and its literature alerts only run until 28 days after you signed up. You can come back any time.

If a payment fails

We keep your plan running for 3 days while your bank and Stripe retry, so a card that expired over a weekend does not cost you anything. You will get an email with a link to update your card, and you can also do it from Payment and invoices.

While a payment is outstanding you can update your card or cancel, but you cannot switch plans until it is settled. If it is never settled, the plan moves to Starter and nothing is deleted.

Closing your account entirely

That is a different thing from cancelling. See Closing your account.
